Attendance

In New South Wales, school attendance is compulsory for all school-aged children. Once enrolled, students are expected to attend school every day unless there is a valid reason.

Regular attendance at school is essential to assist students to maximise their potential. Schools, in partnership with parents and carers, are responsible for promoting the regular attendance of students.

At Birrong Girls, we encourage our students to maintain regular attendance in order to maintain our values of being responsible and respectful learners.

If a student is absent from school, a reason must be provided within 7 days. Extended leave for travel or other reasons requires principal approval, and must also be explained.

Extended Leave - Travel

We encourage families to plan holidays during school holiday times.

If your child needs to travel during the school term and is taking more than 5 days of leave, parents and carers must complete an application for extended leave:

The school principal will review each request.

School Attendance

Coming to school every day helps your child learn, grow, and develop crucial skills. Our school has procedures in place for all students regarding arriving late, going on holiday, and leaving school early. The following document contains information for students and parents/carers about these procedures:

SMS Text Messaging Letter to Notify of Student Absences

Parents/carers are advised that the school will be using mobile phone Short Message Service (SMS) to send text messages to parents notifying them about unexplained absences, late arrivals, and upcoming events at school. Read more information here:
