Literacy at Birrong Girls

All public schools acknowledge how literacy forms the foundations students need for deep learning across the curriculum and the development of skills essential to everyday life. At Birrong Girls HS, from Stage 4, we are supporting the explicit teaching of reading and writing skills that promote deep understanding. All Year 7 and 8 classes have access to ongoing fortnightly literacy lessons that supplement their English subject courses and have been created by our specialist English teachers. Differentiated resources, explicit teaching of grammar, syntax and sentence structure, reading comprehension strategies and writing skills, all additionally supported by Wordflyers as an interactive literacy platform, ensure our students are receiving teaching and learning that caters for their individualised literacy needs.
