Birrong celebrates education week with a "B"
As part of education week, The first Birrong spelling Bee was held. Junior students were given a list of words sourced from NAPLAN . Class competitions saw the best junior students selected to represent their classes. Senior students and teachers participated in a competition held during lunchtime. After spirited competition, Raihana Wazefadost (year 11) won with Nina Tee ( year 12) finishing a close second. The teacher's competition saw Ms Wai a clear winner.
The championship saw all contestants attempting very difficult, and sometimes obscure words. The final competition saw a shock early exit of Rihanna, the senior champion. Ms Wai made her way through the next few rounds before succumbing to the pressure. This left an opportunity for a junior student to crowned school champion.
Sarina Abdullah (7G) stepped to the podium and confidently took the lead before confidently spelling the winning word to claim the title of school champion.
Champions were awarded $50 book vouchers with Ms Wai receiving a $50 coffee card supplied by Sueno coffee. A big thank you to all who showed courage in representing their classes and demonstrating their skills.
A special thank you to Mr Saule (organiser), Rachael Hwang of year 11 (researcher) and Ms Wild (announcer) abd Ms Jarvis (the judge) for their hard work in making this amazing event possible and successful.
