"We will challenge stereotypes and bias"
"I will influence the beliefs and actions of others"
"I will help forge a more gender balanced world"
On the 8th of March 2019, Birrong Girls celebrated International Women’s Day. Early in the morning, SRC members, prefects, teachers and staff represented our school at the Zonta International Women’s Day Breakfast. Our school captain Sarah Al Helfy in year 12 also received the ‘Young Women in Public Affairs Award’ at the breakfast.
In the weeks leading up to International Women’s Day, prefects held presentations in assembly on women who have inspired them. E.g Cathy Freeman and Turia Pitt.
During roll call, SRC members went around to classes and informed the students about what International Women’s Day represents. They also handed out purple ribbons for students to wear in recognition of International Women’s Day.
Additionally, at lunch the school held a BBQ that raised money for the Amnesty team.
A video was made that included what International Women’s Day is and where students and teachers told who their inspirations are.
