Dear BGHS Community,
Serious and ongoing wet weather conditions are predicted for the entire week.
Your cooperation is vital to ensuring the safety of staff and students. We thank you in advance for your organisation and support. Please be advised of the following guidelines and expectations relating to school operations for the rest of the week:
Dressing and preparing for wet weather protection
Dress for safety and success by making sure you have your own umbrella and raincoat to use when needed.
Entry and exiting school grounds
For the remainder of the week, all students can enter through the main gate, sanitise and check masks and medications under the front office awning. Controlled entry and exit will be via the front office. The back gate will remain locked due to flooding.
What is your Plan B for travelling home when Plan A goes wrong?
This week, there has already been significant disruption to public transport. Every student must have a Plan B in relation to how they will get home if their usual plan is disrupted. Please organise this within your family and make sure the student knows. Students are advised to report to the office when there is a problem with pick ups and travelling home. Students should wait at school and be supervised in the safety of our office location until they are picked up.
Safe movement within the school grounds during the day
Parents and students are advised that significant flooding of the school grounds has occured today. This will take time to subside and may be further exacerbated by additional rain scheduled this week. To ensure students are as safe as possible, they are expected to do the following:
- Travel to their designated classrooms using internal corridors, stairwells and sheltered pathways. (Zoning is suspended for this week to enable this)
- No student is permitted to walk across Tumbalong or any other visibly flooded area.
- No student is permitted to deliberately stand in open spaces while it is raining or in spaces that have significant puddles or mud.
- All students must remain indoors during breaks while wet weather conditions are in place.
- All students are expected to move safely and respectfully around the school buildings at all times.
Parents and carers are encouraged to ring the school if they have any queries. Mobile phones that are used on the school grounds will be confiscated. Parents are also asked to take additional care on Cooper Road in the interest of ensuring all our students are safe.
Regards,
Zena Dabaja, Principal
